Farm Animals

Updated versions of the pig, sheep and cow make daytime exploration fun. Also included by popular demand is 'special needs' versions of each animal that more closely match the demeanor of the originals (in both pink and brown, for pigs), and an adorable and strangely familiar black pot-bellied piglet.

Also included is a black sheep alternate in normal and 'special needs', with black cloth block options to match. Has he any wool? Find out through the awesome power of cube-based violence.

New for the Very Painterly Christmas pack, is the elusive Minecraftian Mooing Polar Bear just in time for the winter frost. Just don't ask where the milk comes from.

For those who thought the big, dewey-eyed farm animals were a bit much, you'll be happy to know that internet sensation That_Lamer has made smaller-eyed versions of all the animals, just for you! Smallersize those eyes and try something a little different!

For all you freakshows out there (you know who you are), we've included some fantastically edible Crigs in painterly and classic breeds.

Mooshrooms

A delectable merger of cow and fungus, mooshrooms let you have your steak and mushrooms in one convenient package! As with all painterly mushroom-based options, you can select to have your mooshrooms match any of the 7 mushroom colours - red, toadstool orange, deathcap bright orange, button cap beige, golden, poison blue, or autumn brown. Remember, their decorative mushroom toppers are set to whatever you've chosen as your red mushroom option.

Like That'll Happen...

Holy cow! No, wait...holy pig! We've hit another major milestone! Thanks to you, the viewers at home, we've not only hit an absolutely amazing TWO MILLION customizer downloads, but also, in a similar timeframe, over ONE MILLION non-customized pack downloads! That's rather a lot! I was under the impression that those sorts of numbers would only happen when pigs fly, so, I guess it's time to put my money where my mouth is. Enjoy these adorable winged bacon factories!

Wolves

Wolves abound in the forests of Minecraftia, and Painterly sees them sporting a nice timber wolf/husky type configuration, with a bright red collar when tamed. For those who want alternate options, there is a classic-style light grey wolf, a stalwart ninja dog, and a wild jungle corgi - who comes with and without sunglasses. The grey and husky wolves also come with your choice of collar or neckerchief.

For those who want a more disturbing sort of world, feel free to set your options to utilize the horrifying and rare caterpillar-like Crog. It comes in both Painterly and classic breeds, and is a hit at parties.

Finally, for something a little different, enjoy kitty versions of wolves as well, inspired by the delightful Roamin, cat extraordinare.

Cats

A menace to creepers and all around fun guys to be with, cats (also known as cattes, obviously) come in a veritable kaleidoscope of flavours - ocelot, orange tabby, black cat and siamese. Of course, at Painterly, we strive to make the ridiculous...more-diculous, and so of course, all four of these cat types can be selected from interchangably, and with expanded options to choose from.

Besides the ocelot, we've got a daring Revolver Ocelot, who was never really on your side. There's also a Hobbes-esque tiger, the ever-popular Roamin, and orange and grey tabbies to start you on your way. If those don't tickle your fancy, you can slap shades and a jacket on your grey tabby, and make him the infamous third street Johnny Cat.

Other options include a myriad of popular cat patterns - white, black, tuxedo, calico, mottled, tortoiseshell and siamese, and if none of those makes your day, you can go for the rather silly Meowshroom. Cats ahoy!

Chickens

Not only is there an updated chicken skin, but since I always felt they looked more like ducks, there is an alternate option to make them ducks, as well as some frosty antarctic penguins, fancy wood ducks, and an alternate option to make them duck-huntable ducks.

Snowmen

Crafted with loving care and quite possibly forbidden eldritch magic, these peppy little fellows will wanter around and run interference for hapless adventurers in a pinch. Choose from a classic style snowman, or a more imposing frost-footed runed sentry.

Sea Squid

Deep below in the briny blue, or perhaps lost in benthic caves, or hell, sometimes, in your bathtub, squid are a fantastic reality in this post-alpha minecraft world. Normal minecrafters might say that only the blue squid exists, but we here at Painterly know better.

Thanks to the efforts of budding cryptozoologist LaDestitute, all four of the painterly squids have now been photographed and catalogued for your viewing pleasure - benthic blue, riptide red, whitewater white, and of course, the elusive bloop-squid, named for its bloopy sounds and obviously not for its resemblance to other squids.

For something a little different, you can also pick a squid in a Roamin disguise, because even life under the sea wishes it was an adorable kitty. Makes sense to me.

The Undead

At night, the dead stalk the earth, and now they're more terrifying than ever. The skeleton is sporting a mean grin, and the zombie, well...let's just say that he's here to let you know that once he gets you, you won't need eyes where you're going...

It seems that this Very Painterly Christmas, zombies have gotten up to a few new tricks - such as disguising themselves as mall santas to lure in unsuspecting minecrafters. Of course, when it gets too cold for the dead to roam, it is said the yeti comes out to play...

By popular demand, a more 'classic' styled zombie, well into the end stages of decay, have been added, and a Silent Hill style nurse zombie, as well as a chinese Jiang Shi hopping vampire, if the whole Silent Hill shambling horror thing isn't your bag. To accompany him is also an option for a shark monster, which was too awesomely bizarre not to include. The shark was graciously donated to the pack by the illustrious MC-Dread.

Skeletons can now be found in a few varieties, besides the plain white, you can get ones with a few remnants of their old forms - belts and buckles, or pieces of armor. These 'geared up' skeletons can be found in the original bone-white colouring, and also in a duller grey.

Pigmen

Pigmen and their zombie pigman cousins inhabit (some say infest) the Nether. Representing the terrifying nexus of pig, zombie and skeleton, they come in a variety of options - normal, zombified, exposed bone, and bloody exposed bone, both with the torn-out eyes of Painterly zombies, and blind cave-animal eyes, for a myriad of pigman styles. As with pigs, Pigmen come in both pink and brown, but default to brown.

A little known fact about pigmen is that to make ends meet, they take on a part time job as christmas elves around the holidays. Of course, you'd have to go to the Nether to see it for yourself. When not elfing around, they sometimes also find employment as bee-costumed caretakers of bee hell, and as backup dancers for Lady Gaga. True story!

Villagers

Testificate no longer with this fantastic grab bag of villager personalities, guaranteed to brighten up any town, and, quite possibly, even your day. All Painterly villagers come in your choice of testificate-brown goblin, green goblin, pink or brown pig, cow, or sheep varieties, so you can have a classic style or fantasy monster village to trade with, or just as easily pretend you've gone completely bonkers and have started dressing up the local wildlife.

Should none of these options meet with your fancy, there's even another four beyond that, because hey, villagers are a wild and varied bunch. Experience the village life with villagers modelled after traditional Testificates, Gonzo the Great, Squidward, or the loveable Zoidberg.

Butchers come standard issue with a white chef's hat, kitchen apron and black undershirt and slacks. Ready for all your cuisinart-based needs, unfortunately, their cleaver is sold separately.

Farmers do all the heavy work around the minecraftian villages, be it tending the crops, mining the caves, or chopping down trees. At least, so we presume. They come dressed for work with a sturdy pair of leather overalls, checkered red and black shirt, and warm touque. They won't let you down!

Smiths are the tinkers, craftsmen and inventors of the villages, and are always ready to help. They come dressed for work with heavy asbestos blacksmith's gloves and a thick smith's apron, insulated jacket and hat, and protective goggles. You name it, they can forge it!

Librarians are the academics and scholars of the realm, and haven't been able to let that graduation cap and gown go. Sure it seems a bit odd, but don't let it get to you, they know their books. Big nerds at heart, they also proudly wear the Dr. Who scarf their mom made them back when they were freshmen. Maybe. It's pretty vague and they're not telling how they got it.

Priests oversee the spiritual matters of the minecraftian realms, and are imposing figures in their empyreal black hats, and flowing gold-trimmed blue and white robes. The only question we have is, is it really smart to be building your faith around creepers?

Finally, the generic villager is ready for adventure. He's got a squire's heraldric shirt, a tool and money-filled belt, comfy pants, stylish bracelets, and a dapper beret. No matter what life throws at the villagers, they're ready to take it in stride, and make the best of it. Inspirational fellows, to be sure.

Golems

Crafted by villagers, forged from steel, these collossal destroyers protect the weird and primitive minecraft civilizations from the forces of the undead. With Painterly, you can add a theme to your golems to make them truly stylish and unique.

In addition to a 'classic' style vine-covered iron golem, a clean option is also present, as well as a futuristic, redstone powered robot.

For fans of great movies everywhere, Ghibli-themed robots resembling those of the Castle in the Sky are yours to enjoy, in clean iron, aged and rusted metal, and ancient golem covered in plant life.

For those who want a more dungeoness variety of burly protector, you can also choose from stone golems, available in both light and dark stone, and in plain, red flower-vine covered, and yellow flower-vine coloured versions.

The Oozes

Creepers and slimes are always favourites, and the creeper sports a new grassier texture to better ambush, as well as glowing orange eyes, clacking nails, and TNT-coloured footpads. The slime, in turn, has a much more cellular look - a living terrain block gone bad. The initial slime screenshot was generiously provided by Black.

Also included are a version of the creeper without pupils, a 'classic' version of the creeper with a slightly different-shaped mouth, no pupils, and no TNT-coloured footpads, a 'winter' creeper, two Demichina-pack inspired eye-covered creepers in normal green and marble white, the happy creeper shown to the left, and a few other colours and disguises for the slimes. For wintertime, a gift-wrapped creeper is an option - but it begs the question: who wrapped it?!

Silverfish

These freaky little buggers nest in the walls of strongholds, waiting to ambush unsuspecting minecraftians. Don't be fooled! Silverfish come in three painterly variants - dark stone, light stone, and creepy crawly grub. Choose wisely.

Ghasts

Sulking, skulking terrors of the Nether, the Ghast features a Painterly update, of course. His tendrils are wormish, and his face stoic, and of course, when he spots you, all Nether breaks loose...

Of course, in the interests of subduing the sheer terror of the eldritch horrors of the nether, a...err...frendlier Ghast is also an option, inspired by designs from internet sensation Irukandji Syndrome.

For those living in BEE HELL, a new bee ghast has at long last been created to flesh out that world better. Buzz your way to terror, collecting its honey for your diabolical alchemical experiments.

Nether Monsters

Creatures of fire and brimstone, Blaze fires and Lava slimes inhabit the Nether and ambush unsuspecting or unprepared adventurers. Painterly gives you the option of serveral sorts of each, to match your various nether themes.

Blazes can be set to have netherrack, red nether stone, light stone, dark stone, obsidian, or brinstar blue stone blaze rods, to match your netherian decor.

Lava slimes are now equipped with a mighty chomping jaw, and come in red stone, grey stone, black and purple obsidian, or brinstar blue stone forms, as sentient glowstone blocks, or as animate globs of nether bee honey.

Endermen

The Endermen are mysterious creatures from parts unknown, here to steal your blocks, teleport around, and generally ruin your day. Why? Because they're jerks, mostly.

Experience Endermen in one of six amazing flavours - classic style, cosmic style, slenderman monster in a suit, SCP-173, the amazing Benderman, or a Benderman from a mirror universe. The choice of block-thief is all yours.

Spiders

The spiders are available in several colour schemes - a new deep red and orange theme directly inspired by giant centipedes and fire ants for an added creepy crawly factor, and a black widow skin for your more run-of-the-mill giant tarantulae start off the list. Beyond these two, there's also fuzzy brown, white and black forest spiders, terrifying black-red funnel web spiders, and festive black and orange mexican jumping tarantulas.

Travellers should be warned that arctic spiders also stalk the lonely winter wastelands. Be careful!

It's rumoured that deep in abandoned mines, poisonous blue-green cave spiders roam free. If you see these fellows, run for it! They don't mess around.

Halloween Mobs!

Included with the Halloween edition of the pack (and foreverafter available in Customizer, too!) are Halloween versions of cows, pigs, sheep, zombies, creepers, skeletons, and slimes - all decked out in costumes and looking for treats - or tricks! What's everyone dressed up as this year? Just look down and to your left to find out!

Wussy costumes not 'halloween' enough for you? Then unleash the full and awesome power of the undead with alternate skeletal versions of every animal, as well. Just don't ask us to explain where the hides and eggs are coming from.

Dragons

Here in the End (home of the Endermen!), we at last have the most terrifying, impressive beast of all - the legendary Ender Dragon. At Painterly, we wanted this memorable encounter to be a pretty one, too, so we've pulled out all the stops. You have six options for your tyrants of minecraft, these beasts of might and magic, so choose wisely!

In addition to the mauve-winged classic-style Ender Dragon, more classic-styled dragons are also choices you can select, and come in a classic D&D options package of black, green, blue and red. Should you want something a little more epic, then choose the Cosmic dragon instead, with starry eyes and galactic scales. The choice is yours - but be warned, it could be the last choice you ever make! (Unless of course, you beat the dragon!)

Mar 29th update:

This is a fairly small maintenance patch - it fixes several bugs found when Painterly was updated to 1.5 compatibility, and corrects some issues with the Forge and Dispenser GUIs. OffLawn mod has also been updated to 1.5.0/1.5.1 compatibility, and requires a new pack generation to use with the mod, though now, it works with most popular biomes mods, as well!

- Updated OffLawn to Cannibal Vox's 1.5.1 codebase, uses proper 1.5 minecraft texture formats now. Now compatible with most popular biome-altering mods (eg Extrabiomes XL)!
- Fixed 1.5 error re: Forge, Dispenser and Dropper GUIs.
- Fixed 1.5 error re: Incorrect dispenser textures.

- Improved site stability and server performance on back end and fixed incorrect subroutine call - should result in far fewer failed-to-generate packs.
- Added 'Mystic Wood' option for logs & planks based on textures by Matt Caughey.
- Began laying code groundwork for Amazo Pack 1.5 mod support - to be released in an upcoming patch!

Feb 16th update:

A huge patch - the biggest yet! Behind the scenes, my crew of web-wizards and I have been working for over 6 straight weeks to convert the pack over to the new 1.5 format, representing hundreds of combined hours of labour. While customizer may look more or less the same, the whole guts of the thing have changed in order to deliver the new packs! Believe me this was no small task so I hope everyone appreciates the extra mile we go here at Painterly for you! :)

A special thanks to the folks that made this changeover possible - cbox, PJB, maou, lizzy, Marux, read and Monicro, and for the continued moral support, patience with my frustrations, and help from the whole crew at Gooncraft.

You'll note that because many items had to change, unfortunately, your old passwords will not work with the new system completely, however it couldn't be prevented. Apologies, but at least new passwords should continue to work normally.

Besides the 1.5 conversion, you'll also see a huge array of extra items that I've put in to round out the collection, so to speak. Here's a list of everything included in the Minecraft 1.5 patch for Painterly:

- Texture conversion of all files to 1.5 format.
- Downloadable development kit replaced with a new one containing all 1.5 format textures in /alternates/ folder.
- Legacy mode added to Customizer for all users still using Minecraft 1.4.7 and earlier.
- Unsupported mods suspended from customizer (will be re-added when/if stable versions are re-released that won't add/change items in the mods).

- new GUI option for the Hopper item.
- new wood options for crafting and chest GUIs in the modern wood colours (chestnut, pecan, aged, raw).
- vertical option for fireworks inventory icons.
- All 3 varieties of brick icons in 14 styles of Nether Brick.
- Nether quartz ore in 4 styles (classic, simple, rpg, bismuth) for all 23 styles of netherrack.
- Nether quartz icons in 12 styles.
- Nether quartz blocks in 48 styles for various parts of pillars, blocks, chiselled blocks, etc.
- 14 types of Light Detector tops, in marble, basalt, and crystal variants.
- 9 types of Light Detector sides, in marble, basalt, and crystal variants.

Aug 18th update:

A new GUI option for the updated Airships mod has been added. Nothing else to report. Sorry!

Aug 11th update:

A hotfix has been added which SHOULD restore cookies and password functionality. More or less. We're working on a new back end which should take care of these problems on a more permanent bases, but there's no ETA as it's a huge project.

Aug 07th update:

There have been some improvements to make the customizer load a bit faster. Big thanks to Scaevolus, CapnCapacitor and Alligator for their help on that front. Unfortunately, we've discovered the breaking and 302/500/config errors were being caused by the password/cookie files being too large due to the sheer number of options, so we've had to disable them for the moment.

This update continues our ongoing increased support for the Yogbox, with many new textures added to support its many mods! Obviously not everything is there, but it's getting more complete every update.

You can merge your customized Painterly with the one included in Yogbox by unzipping the painterly you download from here, and copying the files over top of the ones included in the Painterly found in Yogbox, and then using that pack. This will allow you to keep your choices while still getting all the other options in Yogbox. Available this update is:

I can only hope that I can keep making everyone happy with continued improvements to the pack! As a thank you to everyone, a special little bonus has been added to celebrate this monumental occasion. Check out the 'mobs' section of the page for a preview!

We're aware of the issue with thumbnails not being displayed in certain browser/OS combinations and know what's causing it, unfortunately it's not a simple fix. We're working on solutions and should have something soon that will get everything working tip-top once again. Sorry for the inconvenience - you can still preview the images by rolling your mouse over where the thumbnail should be, in the meantime.

UPDATE: Scaevolus has fixed the thumbnail issue - they should now be appearing again for everyone. Refresh your page if you still don't see them! Thank you Scaevolus!

Mar 25th update:

We've just hit an important milestone everyone! ONE MILLION customizer downloads! Thank you all, I couldn't have come this far without the support, donations, and word of mouth and overall great assistance from the community - you folk are all so great! We're pushing over 2.5 TB of data every single month, and have just over 250,000 regular users of the pack (people who visit more than once a month).

To mark this special occasion, two special rhodox-themed items have been added to the pack - a rhodox-logo cake for celebrating, and a plush rhodox doll replacement for the gold sword. Collect em! Trade em! You can even swing em!

Another big patch is in the works, but I'm holding out until the dog patch goes live so I can do everything in one go.

Mar 12th update:

A small update - been busy preparing for various birthday shenanigans and starting a new job, so just a tiny update for now. This update adds 5 new block breaking animations, a new watch dial graphic, a new tree leaf texture, and 4 new wood plank textures and a new diamond sword. It also adds the ability to remove the vignette graphic from the pack, adds correct icons to the storage carts for the new chest options, and fixes a graphical error with the new biome textures caused by white sections on the triangles.

I would also like to take this opportunity to give a huge thanks to Mr. Cerniglia. Thank you so much for your support and kindness - I sincerely mean that from the bottom of my heart.

Mar 03rd update:

It's lavawine time! This update adds 109 new graphic items mostly centered around grapes and wine, including 2 128-frame custom lava animations! The update adds the aforementioned 2 lava animations, 2 grape replacements for crops, 2 grape replacements for reeds/sugarcane, grape and wine replacements for cane, paper, books, wheat and bread, 2 wine rack replacements for bookshelves, a glass bucket option, 6 new wood trellis window options, 5 new storage chest options, a new biome leaf texture, 4 new grass textures - golf course and ZekeySpaceyLizard pattern (used with permission) in normal and biome versions, and a ZekeySpaceyLizard-inspired quilted cloth texture and matching dyes.

Feb 22nd update:

This update adds compatability with the Beta 1.3 update, and adds 8 bed options, 6 delay block options, 5 bed inventory icons, 3 delay block inventory icons, a new community brick texture, a new glowstone texture, and a temporary fix for the new Redwire code, which, while less than optimal, works for the moment.

Feb 19th update:

This update adds 6 new lightstone options, a SNES-themed painting style, removes the melting sprites paintings (they were lazy and almost nobody used them), and most importantly, adds alternate dirt options. This was a huge undertaking, requiring 176 new graphic tiles to be created to cover every combination of grass and soil colour and length, as well as a huge amount of backend coding for the logic to apply the tiles. So I hope it's appreciated!

Thanks to further back end code improvements by xax, customizer now also supports a few additional quality of life features. Categories in the customizer can now be expanded or collapsed, super-option buttons are now available to do things like set all wood or stone options to a single colour or pre-load specific theme packs like the halloween pack, and a password system has been introduced that allows you to share your packs with your friends. Enjoy!!

Feb 10th update:

This update adds 2 new weapons (wood staff and frying pan), as well as 'piercing' orientation for the lance, spear, glaive and stick, 6 shades of 'broad leaf' leaf blocks in various green hues, and a new set of cloth blocks in 4 varieties, and matching dye icons, for a variety of signs and markers that take advantage of the multiple block patterns offered by the new dyeing system. You can preview the signs in the materials section, and the icon replacements for dyes and what they were designed for in the resources section.

Feb 05th update:

A substantial update, we'll call this one the 'Mistakes and Ladders' update. This update mainly addresses a lot of longstanding community requests or concerns, as well as adds a few fun things off my list of stuff to do. There was also a substantial backend performance upgrade done by Scaevolus on the Customizer - everyone should notice it loading much faster now.

78 new graphic options have been added this time around: 2 new suns and 2 new moons, 'realistic' style bricks in light and dark normal and mossy, 'realistic' style half blocks in 6 varieties, 4 new leaf colours (including pink petals), a brown cacti, 2 new coal textures, leather patches for cows, dye petals, cacti and vials, 4 new ladders, chick replacement for eggs, 6 new shades of grass including 2 new biome compatible options, and 12 alternate weapons to replace the traditional swords.

Jan 26th update:

A moderately-sized update with a mix of often-requested items, a few suprises, and fills for gaps in options. 44 new graphics were created, including a new sandstone texture, 'realistic' options for smooth stone and cobblestone in both stone colours, mossy and flowery (red and yellow) cobblestone for 'realistic' cobble, ice dispensers in all the usual varieties, vending machine dispensers, a new bedrock pattern, paint can dyes, and Spelunkiana Jonesy hide armor! Furthermore, four community contributions have been added: a chinese art pack to match the chinese items by Mozzie, and three Quandry Pack options - feather, fishing pole and seeds - recoloured to match painterly and used with permission by their owner, Extranoise.

Jan 21st update:

Huzzah! Today Painterly hit 500,000 Customizer downloads (and nearly 350,000 vanilla pack downloads) and so in celebration of this half-million milestone, I added a couple golden items for this special occasion - wild golden roses and toadstools to enrich your world's vegetation in a truly opulent manner. Also included are another kind of gold - two lightstone textures featuring lightstone chunks embedded in blocks of smoothstone. Behind the scenes, a bunch of CSS and webpage optimizing has gone on over the last week to streamline things, and, as you've probably noticed, collapsable patch notes have been added.

Jan 18th update:

a minor update which fixed an issue with the Dispenser gui, added a new forge gui, a new flower, palm tree bark, a new type of sand and sandstone, and updated several layout and back-end issues on the page itself and in customizer. You can now click any part of a customizer entry to select it rather than just the checkbox or radio button.
